HELP!! My Local library recently upgraded their computers, & sold their old ones for relatively cheap. The only problem is, it is set to reset EVERY TIME IT TURNS OFF!! I'm trying to install ubuntu on it, so this is VERY frustrating. Please help!

When you say "reset," what do you mean? All settings are lost? If that is the case, its CMOS battery is probably dead. Most computers use a CR2032 lithium coin cell, although a few others have been used as well, so open it up and check before you buy one.

I have been working with the library for quite some time. There is a program installed into it's OS that resets the computer every time. This allows the computer to restore from an image every time it is reset. Your best option is to take it back to the library and ask if one of the I.T. techs can remove the program. The program is built into the OS so even if you factory reset it, it will still restore from that same image (prevents kids from screwing up the computer)

If he's installing Ubuntu, anything on the hard drive shouldn't matter- he'll be overwriting it.

If by reset, you mean that it turns itself back on, check in the BIOS. There may be a Wake on LAN or Wake on Power setting enabled. I'd personally reset the BIOS to it's factory defaults. That should clear the issue.

It can't be overwritten unless he has some sort of kill disk. The OS won't authorize you to uninstall and acces bios without a password.
