This morning my computer would not let me login. I would get the message: "The User Profile Service service failed the login. User Profile cannot be loaded". I had to use my second computer to get Online to figure out how I could fix this. After finding a solution in working with the Registry, my original computer was working again, except my profile looks like I just loaded a fresh Windows 7. Under User's profile window I show 3 user's profile. The default profile, dated 1 year ago, and two identical named profile, one dated yesterday and the other dated today. The profile dated yesterday is bigger than the one dated today. How can I change the profile dated yesterday as my Default profile? In other words, how can I make my computer look like it did yesterday. Really need some help here. Thanks.

Ok have had someone do this before.

They had to edit a registry setting correct? Had to rename something that had a .BAK on the end of it.

The question is..Did you DELETE the WHOLE thing or JUST THE .BAK! Had a friend who tried to do this himself and delete the whole thing and had the same issue. Don't worry even if you did you can still be saved.

If you DID delete the whole thing which you weren't suppost to. Her is how to fix it.

Open My Computer and go to C Drive and then the Users folder. In there you should have your old user folder still and then a new one should also be created and should be named a little differently. But go to your old User folder and make sure all your files are there. If they are great!

Open back up Regedit and go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

In there you should have a S-1-5-21-XXXXXXX (Where X are a bunch of random number) You will know which one is the correct one if there are bunch with random number. just click on the Registry and on the right you should ProfileImagePath and it should be C:\Users\YourUserName

But you want the one that is named diffrently. Probably be like User.001 or something like that.

You want to double click on that ProfileImagePath and change it to the orginal User Folder. So it should be C:\User\Username not C:\User\Username.001

Once you do that, restart your PC, and it will load your Old User Profile. You can then delete the new User Profile it created in the Users Folder

Thanks drtweak for your response. Yes, I did make changes to the S-1-5-21, but I did not delete anything. All I did was to move the .BAK up to the other slot of the S-1-5-21 that did not have an extension, but both of them remain. I also changed the value of each the Ref count and State to zero when I clicked on each of the entries, S-1-5-21.
