As a part of an assignment I should choose a hard drive from "new egg" website which has best possible speed.I know that access time of a hard disk depends on seek time, rotational time and transfer time.

What is this transfer time actually??
How to find this transfer time??Will it be specified on the disk or we have to calculate it??

Solution
Access time = (seek time) + (rotational delay) + (transfer time)

here is a detail about the it (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cs.ucla.edu%2Fclasses%2Fwinter03%2Fcs143%2Fl1%2Fhandouts%2Fexam_notes.doc&ei=yelGU9znJovlsATTwIKACA&usg=AFQjCNHwWWrbjNpg9O_pufJhnXa3ZzpsMQ&sig2=-seitvYUM_MCv17m1Stw-g)

Sata 6GB/s means the bus speed it can support. If you plug a hhd say it has 6Gb/s to a 3.5Gb/s port, then the max speed will be ~3.5Gb/s. If you plug a 3.5 Gb/s hhd to a 6Gb/s, the max speed will be 3.5 Gb/s

So, it comes down to if the HHD is bottleneck by the port or not
