Hi,

Recently my computer's hard-drive failed and I had to buy a new hard-drive (WD and 1 terrabyte), I installed the OS onto it and everything and it was all working fine. After using it about almost a week the hard-drive is making some kind of loud deep grinding noise from time to time. When this happens, whatever I'm doing sort of freezes and it all messes up eveything. For example, if I was watching a video on youtube the sound would go funny for a second and revert back to normal. Another time was I was playing League of Legends and this happened, my ping went really high in the game for a few seconds. This started to happen after installing some window updates.

I'm not exactly 100% if the sound is from my hard-drive, but I checked and I heard the sound from that area.

I'm not exactly very knowledgeable in computers and I would appreciate any help possible. I really do not want to buy another hard-drive only in a week time of usage. Thank you.

Those things are not completely silent and you may get some noise that sounds like "grinding" from time to time. Remember, it has moving parts ( the spinning disks ). If you start hearing a clicking sound, then you best make sure your stuff is backed up as it is getting ready to fail. I am thinking that there may be an issue with the updates. It happens sometime. I haven't heard of anything about any troublesome updates and I haven't had any issues, but that doesn't mean that isn't the problem. If you know what Updates you got, you can uninstall them and see if the problem persists or do a restore to a time before you got the updates.
