chkdsk Error on /f

Hi there,
Im trying to get my C: drive to work, however once i go into chkdsk, it just comes up that my C:D rive in corrrupt or unreadable and i was just looking for next steps ?

Yeh thats what i eventually want to do,however im doing it for a friend and they havent baced up the files, and urgently need some of them, so i was just looking for a way of recovering them, Then realised that the C: drive was corrupt

Slave that disk to another Windows PC and call up a Command Prompt. At the Prompt, type
chkdsk x: /r
where x is the drive letter the system allocates to your disk. The /r switch is the Command equivalent of Fix only a little stronger. It triggers a five stage process that tries to find and fix file and disk errors and repair damaged sectors or even clusters.

Im attempting to do this but it's coming up sayin "Type of File System is NTFS", i should mention that im using Hiren boot cd to get it to work

That's the first line of every Checkdisk scan but if it stalls at that point, it's probably a dead duck. You might be lucky and get your personal files off it using Hirens or any other Linux based CD that can run live without being installed.

Yeh im managed to get Hiren to work on it fine and also managed to retrieve all the required thanks very much for you help with this matter
