TV draw on Graphics card

Probably a stupid question, but here goes. I buught an Asus GT 640 with the intent of streaming Netfilx while I work. But I am experiencing some strange graphics issues since hooking the TV up.
Does the TV draw resources from the card even if it is not turned on?

right click on your desktop and go to screen resolution (winodws8) or properties/display properties or resolution i don't remember (windows7) and set it to use only 1 screen when the TV is off if you don't want windows to use both screens...

no your TV screens only receive a signal from the graphics card, it does not ''draw'' power from your computer in any way...only from the wall...

Do you have the latest drivers installed for you graphics card and have you set the correct resolution for your TV in windows?

Not really, however they are physically connected so if there is some problem with the HDMI input grounding or something that could be an issue.

Since your problem isn't very clear it's hard to be more specific.

If they are "artifacts" on the screen it's likely a defective graphics card.

Actually I was thinking more resources than power. What is happening is that there are times when my cursor disappears and it takes quite a lot of moving the mouse around before it comes back. I ws wondering if even though the TV isn't on, but still set up as a display if my cursor my be over where it thinks the display is. The other issue I am having especially in Chrome is that if I bring it up from being minimized, the area in the ribbon comes in chunks with tabs etc. missing. As I drag the cursor over them they appear and stay, but it is getting a bit annoying. This didn't happen until I hooked the TV up.

You are correct, even though the TV is off the computer still sees it as an active monitor and you can move your mouse and windows over there as if it was on. What you will need to do is right click on your desktop, go to screen resolution, and then disable the monitor which is the TV. You will need to re-enable it when you want to use it again. Or you can physically disconnect it which might be a pain in the butt.
