Computer shuts down about 2 minutes after starting any game.

I recently built my own computer and it has been running fine the last few days. Just this morning it will shut down if I run any game. (Starbound, Dragon Nest, Far Cry 3)

Dxdiag Text: http://pastebin.com/H7qi6u3b

I thought at first it was because I did not clean off the previous thermal paste from the cpu when building, so I went and cleaned it off using Qtips and isopropyl alcohol then reapplied the paste for a new layer. This did not help it and it still continued to shut down.

Then I tried putting a fan next to the tower to help regulate flow and it helped for a little bit then crashed again.

It would really be awesome if someone would be able to help me with this problem, are there any tests I could run to see if I need to replace something? I was thinking of getting a water cooling system for my system.

I was already planning on the water system but I need to know if I should replace something before I invest in one. (I am not the richest fellow on the block)

Please reply with anything I need to add to help make this process easier to understand.

Hi,

Usually, shut down are due to virus / overheating / defective part.
If it only shuts down in games , I am suspecting a weak/defective PSU or GPU/CPU overheating.

First off download hwmonitor / coretemp or speedfan (watch out not to install toolbar and adware ) and check your cpu temperature
download msi afterburner to check your GPU temps.

If they are all fine, if you can, swap a known working PSU and test it out.

To rule out malware, download rogue killer, adwcleaner and malwarebyte (from bleepingcomputer.com) and run a scan.

Good luck

And I do run SpeedFan and this is the speed I get while just browsing the web:

Plus I have been running the programs recommended to see for viruses but I dont think it will show due to this being build about 3 days ago with completely wiped drives. I only used for gaming up to this point

What would you recommend to help the problem?

Edit: I am going to get the Hydro Series™ H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler and see how that works. I realize now my case only has air being blown in but nothing forcing the hot air out. I now have the case side open and facing towards the room to help vent some air and my temp has gone down a little bit. I plan on getting the cooler tommorrow and hopefully get and install it by saturday. If you have any other suggestions please post them :D

PS: I plan to dust the entire thing before installing the cooler

Update: I actually went ahead and bought a new psu and hope that it is the problem due to other suggestions from some friends and computer techs. If it does not work I will return it and get the cooling system. Even if this fixes the problem I do plan on getting the cooling systems just for the fact of how I do plan to make this a huge gaming build in the future. If you do have any other suggestions towards the system's problems or towards my build please reply! :D

Ok nvm then rule out the drivers option. Since overheating might be an issue try to underclock your GPU and increase the fan speeds and see if that makes any difference.

Use a tool such as EVGA Precision X, MSI Afterburner, etc. From those programs you can adjust sliders to adjust the clock speed of the GPU. You can also adjust the fan speed.

I myself use EVGA Precision X and it's pretty easy to use.

Anyways once you download either of the programs try sliding down the core clock speed by increments of 100Mhz at a time.

Ex: You start at 1000Mhz, you go to your program mentioned above and slide it down to 900Mhz. Then go back to the game and see if it's working. Keep repeating the same process until you reach about 600Mhz and get back to me on whether or not you saw a difference.

Also try running high fan speeds around 90%, it will be loud but at least you can see if overheating is the problem.

Sounds like a faulty video card. Did you buy it new? See if you can call in for a refund or replacement.

Also make sure both psu cables are plugged into the slots on the GPU, not just one.

I bought it brand new from new egg but it has been a bit longer to get it built as I had problems before with ram. So now of course the replacement is completely done. Also I dont know what you mean by both cables as there is only one place for it 0.o not two...
