Quick question with a long answer i am sure......I have a y dongle to split screens and can get it to show on both screens but it won't let me extend it will only let me clone. In order to extend what do I do? and yes when i click extend it shows a clone. And Yes it only identifies both screens as #1 i have been unable to get it to split screens completely.. With a Y-dongle, that's all you can do. The signal wires are shared between the two monitors, and as a result, both displays get the same picture.

What options do you have as far as video ports?

guessing your Lenovo i7 doesn't have a separate graphics card? so im guessing you have vga/HDMI out? If you have both, you can run seperatre cables and then run two monitors in extention. But vga is a sore connection, supports 480 I believe analoge?

This may be simple. First make sure you have "cloned" monitors turned off. Then, in Windows 7, go to your Display settings > Screen Resolution. In the "Multiple displays" DDL, select "Extend these displays."

If you have an Intel Graphics utility in the system tray (next to the clock), then click on it & choose the option to Extend your display rather than Clone or Duplicate it.

Edit: It also would help to confirm with wherever the machine came from if it actually supports dual displays through that Y-adaptor.
