Hello guys!

Tl;DR How did these scratches happen (pics below)

So I had recently bought a Asus Rampage 4 Formula on eBay which was listed as "new (other)" the seller said that the reason for the other is that the manual is missing. I thought no big deal and bought it since it was such a great price. However when I got it today I was astonished to see all these scratches on it. How on earth did they even happen???

Can I fix them?

Solution
yea, its gotta be from manufacturing. if it was from the previous owner, he would have had to be pretty meticulous to only scratch the metal and not the plastic pieces.

@daswilhelm I know it won't hurt them but I'm an asolute aesthetics freak. And also I paid for a NEW motherboard and got this. So I am wondering how on earth they happened? Did he use the motherboard as a skateboard or something?

those scratches are pretty minor. if nothing else is scratched besides the heatsinks, i would assume they happened during the manufacturing process. honestly, you can buy a new motherboard from a major retailer and it can still arrive with cosmetic blemishes. if they really bother you, return it, and see if newegg sends you something better.

The board can't be returned, OP said that it was a Ebay purchase.

since when cant you return things from ebay? i havent bought anything there in awhile, but i recall paypall reimbursement if the product wasnt as described.

@daswilhelm The problem is that these boards are extremely hard to find not over priced. All other vendors have this motherboard new selling for $600+!!! While the retail price for this board used to be $380! I can return the motherboard but then I have no idea where to get another one!

Yes, you can return stuff on Ebay, but you mentioned Newegg, and they won't do anything for you in this situation.

ha, ok then, i suppose the question is, are these scratches worth a couple hundred bucks?

Prob bought it used it and needed money or went to another mobo, if advertised as new would retun, if it hadn't been used would expect the manual, and ALL additional items to be with it i.e. think that mobo comes with about 6 SATA cables, Wifi antenna, rear panel for case, OC Key, OC key cable, SLI and XFire bridges (think 2 of ea), just all kinds of goodies ;)

yes, i understand newegg and ebay are different companies... i meant he could try to return the board, and then purchase another from newegg.

Where do you live?? $600 for a Rampage?

$370 on Newegg

Also I highly doubt they are manufacturing issues as the seller did not mention anything about the scratches and upon confronting the seller about this he stopped replying to me. I had opened a case demanding an answer to where these scratches came from. So I figured while I wait I would try to find an answer on toms.

@ Jacob McIntosh I live in Florida. And as you can see by the Newegg page that item is sold out. So I am forced to resort to 3rd party vendors. Amazon is out of stock, tiger direct, Fry's, ect. My only choice is eBay.

are there scratches anywhere else on the motherboard? or just the heatsinks?
