Hi,

I have an MSI x58 motherboard.
Here's the MB spec url: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/X58M.html
Incase this website removes the url, here are the relevant specs:
memory slots: 6
max memory: 24GB
memory channel: tripple

• Supports six unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 800/1066/1333* (OC) DRAM, 24GB Max
- Supports 1GB/ 2GB/ 4GB DRAM size
- Supports x8 / x16 data lines per DIMM
- Supports up to 3 channel mode

What I have today:
6GB (3 memory sticks)
OCZ3G1600LV6GK
PC3 12800
8-8-8 @ 1.65v

That's printed on the memory stick label.

Option #1: Add 6 more Gig

Problem: I can't find the same memory stick to guarantee it will work. They're out of stock everywhere.

Question: Are there other brands that will work with my existing setup?

I don't mind paying a little for add 6gig more to have a total of 12.

Option #2: Install 24Gig (6x4gig sticks)

It'll be nice to have 24gig in my system for work and video editing.
I'll remove the 6gig I have today and put in 24gig of something else.

Question: What memory would you recommend?
Is there a big difference between CAS 8 and 9, 10, 11, etc.?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Will

Hi. If you have DDR3 12800 sticks, they are 1600 Mhz and will run at 1066 Mhz ( 1333 Mhz OC'd ). It is Tri Channel, so when you buy Memory you need to buy it in matched sets of three. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4364416&CatId=4327

The motherboard will support up to 24 Gb of memory, but depends on the OS and what it supports as to what wil actually get used. For instance, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit supports up to 16 Gb of memory.
