I am updating my gaming PC from AMD to Intel.

These are the components that I am replacing:
-CPU: Phenom II x 4 965 BE
-MOBO: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
-RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB 1600
-PSU: Raidmax 535W

Keeping:
GPU: Powercolor 7850
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB

New setup is:
CPU: i5 4670K
MOBO: Biostar Hi-Fi Z87X 3D
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB 1866
PSU: Seasonic G series 750W

My reason for updating my rig is to future proof and to also go to a new GPU later this year.

My question is: on my current setup I have a CM Hyper 212 EVO installed, is it worth removing the cooler, cleaning the thermal paste, and reinstalling the cooler on my setup? Or is there a better CPU cooler (Air) that I should look at purchasing? ($75 budget)

Yep. That cooler will do just fine. I am personally not big on a Biostar Motherboard, but know people who have run them and had no complaints, and these are knowledgable people.

I think the 212 EVO is one of if not THE best air coolers out there. It is time tested reliable and true to performance. Some newer air solutions are out and are decent and may perform even a little better but it's hard to replace a clear winner when your money can go elsewhere. I'd save teh $75 and apply that towards a better gpu.

Have you already bought all those parts, and maybe if you have a lot of spare time. I do not know if the cooler only works on one type of socket.

A new gpu is in the plans but will be later this year. Probably will go with either a 770 or R9 280

Sweet! In the interim if you want your system to shine I'd get an asus mobo if you can afford it instead of the biostar. Or consider an ssd for your os to speed up the "snappiness" of your system.

All the parts are purchased and delivered. CoolerMaster says that it will work with 1155 socket. Everything that I have seen that if it works on the 1155 socket then it will also work on the 1150 socket.

I am correct on this?

You'll be good on the 1150 too!

What ASUS motherboard would you suggest? I was trying to keep my update budget around $500 (Paid $519 from Newegg for 4 items that I got). I probably could go to around $150 for a MOBO if returning the Biostar is not to difficult.

Actually If you want a good motherboard and want to save some money look at ASRock. They are made by ASUS. This one would be good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

coastie65 gave you a good one to look at. I like asrock too. Nothing against biostar but I like to overclock etc and you may decide to as well later and it's worth it to have the better mobo in their already.

Cool, thanks for the quick responses guys! Here's what I think I will do: keep the 212 EVO and return the Biostar motherboard and get the board that coastie65 suggested.

How painful is the return process with Newegg. Looks like i will get hit with a 15% restocking fee and shipping.

Well you can usually haggle over the phone. Have never had to return but most people get around the restocking fee.
