Hey guys,
3 years ago when I built my first rig you guys were really helpful, i'm thinking of upgrading it now and just have some questions, any help would be amazing!

I currently have a gtx 570 and was hoping to upgrade to a gtx 780ti (was waiting for maxwell but with rumours saying its getting pushed back until next year thought id jump in and get a 780ti now and maybe sell it and upgrade when maxwell hits if its necessary)

I have a few questions firstly, will anything bottle neck with this build? and will the motherboard be fine with the new card?

i7-2600 3.4ghz CPU - looked up a few forums most people said there will be no bottleneck with this CPU
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3PB3 P67 DDR3 intel 1155 pin motherboard- I dont think there is any problem here?
corsair TX-850 ATX power supply- Also pretty sure this is fine.

Now at the moment I only have 2x 2gb DDR3 1600 G.SKILL Ripjaws I know I need more RAM what do you think would be the best way to upgrade this? will another 2x2gb sticks of the exact same RAM be the best thing to do? after reading around it seems 8gb of RAM will be enough for the 780ti is this true?

I want this build to be fine with running the OR dev kit 2 coming out it july, I know the card can handle everything at the moment at 1080p do you think it should be fine running it in stereo 3d as well? Does running games on the rift in stereo 3d give you the exact same performance hit as running games in 3d with nvidias 3d vision drivers?

Again thanks for reading guys any help would be great! even if you cant answer all the questions!

Yes, the 2600 will not bottleneck a 780ti. Don't worry about that.

I would upgrade RAM though. If you can find the same RAM and it will fit with your cooler then why not buy 2x2GB RAM. Otherwise just buy 2x4GB 1866. You really do need 8GB RAM. 4GB is holding it back.

I can't say anything about stereo 3d as I have no experience with that.

there will be no bottleneck and the ram is usually not an issue and getting the same ram type allows less problems in frequency and latency. You could get by with other ram and you will probably never notice the difference.

I can not speak for stereo 3d but the premium for the 780 ti over the 780 is not completely worth it but if you want the best the gtx 780 ti is that. Also there is a 590 for sale but that might not be a better solution.

Cool thanks for the replies guys, I found another 2x2gb sticks for $50 from the same place I purchased my original ram so ill grab those I think.

I never thought about the 780 will look into it, off the top of my head the 590 is 2 graphics cards on the one chip yeah? I think i remember reading that and SLI/crossfire dont work well with the rift at the moment

...and i want to back the 780 it has much better price/perf ratio then the 780ti and is plety eniugh for any games maxed out at 1080p except of course crysis 3...780 is 12/14th the perf of 780ti for like 9/14th the cost...

yeah i will definitely look a bit more into the 780, I should of also said I want it to be able to run the oculus cv 1 which should be 1440p. assuming i dont upgrade when maxwell launches. I dont really follow graphics card news what are your personal opinions of maxwell release date? do you think it has been pushed back? is there usually more rumours and leaks when cards are getting close to releasing?

All i know is the current cards price will decrease and that 780 ti will be hard to resell for a good percent compared to the 780. Also i think that you can find ram for cheaper used if wanted. Either way the less money you spend now the more you will have later for better hardware.

nvidia 800 series is due for Q4 2014 or as late as early 2015...the gtx870 will probably comes in first as it is pretty much always the case, it willprobably a card based on the same gk110 gpu from the gtx780/780ti...probably with 4gb of vram and around 400$ us at launch...so if you get a 780 now you sacrifise 1gb of vram and 100$ or so...the 880 or 880ti or titan v2 or what ever the new high end chip will be called idont think will hit the market before 2015 for sure...maybe even Q2 2015...if you want to game this year get the 780 or 780ti...for 1440p iwould consider the 780ti if it fits in your budget i thought you where playin at 1080p..

Sorry yeah i did say I was going to play at 1080p but kinda wanted to future proof it as well just in case i didn't upgrade. I think you have convinced me to get a 780 because I can get one for around $500 delivered to Australia which is around $200 cheaper. ill get the 780 use it for around 2 years and upgrade then. I think it should be able to handle 1440p in stereo 3d games for around 2 years even if i have to drop all the settings to low-med.

I too think 780 is better buy. When you are ready for 1440p gaming then sell and upgrade.

Why not a 770?

Ive got the money for a 780, 780ti was pushing it, for now ill be gaming in 1080p stereo 3d which will cut the frames a bit, I think from reading around its about a 40% drop in fps, Then once the 1440p rift comes out I will either upgrade if i have the money or continue using the 780 for a year or so longer. It should be able to game at 1440p stereo 3d if I lower everything. Thanks for all your help guys you've been amazing! I just have one more question though, cards don't usually drop in price unless a new model is released correct? because i don't really need this card until july but as it looks like there wont be any high end nvidia cards until at least the end of the year the price of the 780 shouldn't drop between now and then?

It should not unless AMD drops the price of his cards to make more sell...if that happens then the nvidia card will get a price drop too...but it is unlikely i beleive market is stable ATM...
