New Monitor Question

I am planning on getting a new 1080p monitor. I am currently using a monitor with a resolution of 1280x768. The monitor I am getting has a resolution of 1920x1080 . Here are my PC specs:

Windows 8
i5 2500k 3.3Ghz
8GB RAM
Radeon HD 6870

I currently get around 60 FPS on Bioshock Infinite on the highest settings, which I know is good. However, I've heard that if I get a monitor with a higher resolution, I will be getting less frames. So my question is, how much would this affect my performance? I am planning on upgrading my graphics card in about 4 months, so it shouldn't be an issue after that, but for right now, how much of a frame drop should I expect? Would my FPS be so low that the game will be unplayable? Thanks in advance.

Solution
For a 6870 just stick with 1080p You need a better video card with more vram for higher resolutions. I would look more into something like for pure gaming a TN panel that is able to push 120hz+ you can currently get one from asus for about $189 but I would suggest something higher end like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313 I personally use a PLS panel and I find PLS to be the best well rounded for gaming. Both of the monitors that I talked about are TN panels. But unless you really care more about how good colors look I would just suggest a TN over 120hz. You will notice an amazing difference in smoothness over the regular 60hz monitor
