i have a 2005 gateway GT5028 media center desktop, my PSU is 300 watts. does it matter what type of graphics card i use in my PCI x16 slot ? I know it cant use to much power. I had a galaxy 610 card but it stopped working months later.

thats a bit high for, im looking for something cheaper but is compatible for this computer. this pc is ddr and that card is listed ddr5,

This card will be compatible as long as you have a PCI-express slot. There's not much point in buying discrete graphics cards below this tier; you're actually getting less for your money. Additionally, it will outlive the computer you're on now so you can install it in a new one when you upgrade. Other options are the gt 630 and 640.

i bought a Geforce Galaxy 610 last year and it lasted till day ago, all the sudden the second monitor stopped displaying and i tried hooking up the first monitor to that card and it would not turn on so but the device manager shows that card as working but i think the card is half dead cause the dual monitor set up isnt working now...i know this gateway has a old motherboard. actually i cant afford the price of that card 149 right now

The memory type used by the CPU/motherboard and the memory type used by the video card are completely independent and have nothing to do with one another. Many users assume they must match and that is simply not true.

If it was true, no one could use any DDR5 based video cards in their DDR3 based systems (both are the current standards for high-end systems today).

well i discovered the cards were not the problem but the PCIe slot has to be bad because I tried a new graphics card and it did not work, the system didnt even recognize the fact it was installed.
