The desktop had a problem and wasn't booting anymore. So decided to re install XP on it from disk I think came with it. Put disk into laptop and found product key that is on disk. Put disk into desktop and had it in repair mode. When it came time to put in the product key, I put in the one I found located on the windows XP disk (genuine OEM) and it came up "product key is not valid".
I have tried it a few times and I know it to be correct.
I can not install a program onto computer to find the key on the install as will not boot.
If won't install, will just buy Windows 7 for it. Just hoping to get it running on this for now as kids play on it, and we type up recipes etc on it in word etc.
Does anyone know why it would be doing this? Or what we can do to get it to work?

All help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you remove the hard disk and fit it or slave it into another PC, the paid for version of MagicalJellybean key finder will seek out Product Keys from every disk in the system. It isn't too expensive and definitely a lot less than a new instaltion of Windows 7. Is there no Certificate of Authenticy on the case?

I should it should be pointed out that XP has been withdrawn from support by Microsoft so in the light of your problem, you might like to consider Windows 7. It is also possible to install free operating systems from the Linux stable.

Tut tut, aldan - I expected better from you! If you have something genuine to give away, do it in a PM but if you're selling in Tom's, do it in the Deals section.
