My cpu's been going up to 55-60C under load. Does this look high with a hyper 212 evo?
The cpu is not overclocked.
My mobo is Asus z87-A if it's relevant.

You can use the "Turbo" setting and then make finer adjustments in the speed curve to reach a reasonable compromise between noise and performance.

The higher the performance the higher the noise, unfortunately you can't have both. Alternatively, if the noise is a serious issue for you, then a closed-loop water cooler is the only option for higher performance.

I would still say that the problem just may be that the HS is not properly seated, or the thermal paste isn't properly applied. It's not very difficult and there are several tutorials available online that can help you with that.

Perfectly normal , that cooler is one of the best air coolers out there !!
That mobo is also good.
Unless it doesnt cross 72-75 under load , there's nothing to worry much , haswell runs a bit hotter.

using a program such as prime 95, you can go into the 80's and be fine. Try not to go much above 80C. Processors can take the heat though.

Yes they can , infact Prime95 for me doesnt cross more than 65-68 after 2-3 hours of running.
I have a beastly Kraken X60 though.
Also mine isnt on overclock , its just with 3.4 Ghz factory speed with turbo of 3.8 Ghz

Did you check the stock HSF temps under the same ambient conditions? If yes, then it is possible that either the cooler wasn't fitted properly, or more likely, the thermal paste wasn't applied uniformly.

it also looks like the heatsink fan doesn't change speed automatically.
It is possible that somewhere in the system, probably in the BIOS settings, the speed may have been set to manual and not automatic.

I've check bios and it was already set to automatic. I had the same problem with my stock cooler.

Earlier you said it "looks like" that the fan doesn't change speed. Have you used any fan speed monitoring software? Because it is possible that the speed changes were subtle enough to not be visibly noticeable. Try installing the Intel Desktop Utilities, which has a speed monitors for all the fans directly connected to the motherboard. While the software is running, you can try running a game (windowed). Then you can confirm whether the fan speed goes up with the temp or not.

Have you tried using different fan profiles in the "Fan Xpert" module of the ASUS AI Suite? Can you manually change the fan speed through it?

Once you apply the settings, they are saved, and used automatically as Windows starts. If your settings are not being saved, right-click on the "ASUS AI Suite 3" shortcut, go into the "Properties", and open the "Compatibility" tab. Near the bottom of it, tick the option that says "Run this program as an administrator". Click "Apply", then check if the settings are being saved now. If they still aren't then it might be a software bug, in which case it would be best to contact ASUS's software support.

I think there was a similar bug in the earlier version of ASUS AI Suite 2, which was later fixed with an update. So, get the ASUS AI Suite 3 software updated to the latest version, and if that doesn't fix the problem, go to the ASUS forums and complain about it a lot. Once enough people are complaining on their forums, they'll decide to fix the bug. Sorry, but at least in my personal experience, ASUS isn't quite the #1 name in customer support.
