Hello,

I have a HP Pavillion dv5 series laptop, with two slots for ddr2 ram. It is a 64 bit computer. Can i install ddr3 ram? I read somewhere that laptops with 64 bit can accommodate more ram.

If not, how do i check if my motherboard can support ddr3 ram? Does upgrading from 32bit to 64bit involve changing motherboard? If yes, are there chances my motherboard might accomodate ddr3?

Are there any adapters out there that can help accommodate ddr3 ram in ddr2 slots?

Solution
Your motherboard does not support DDR3 RAM. There are no adapters for DDR3 RAM and DDR2 Motherboards. You must use DDR2 RAM for your system.

DDR3 ram will not fit in DDR2 sockets, so you will have to find DDR2 memory to upgrade.

If your cpu supports 64-bit, you shouldn't have any problems installing a 64-bit OS. Check your CPU specifications at www.intel.com or www.amd.com - look for 64-bit compatibility.
