Hi All.
I have been given a CBA Digital USB HDD (Toshibal MK2565GSX 250 Gb) it will backup all my files with history and my Mem' sticks OK. (Uses 2 USB ports for power).
However if I try to backup my files manually, Say, My Documents folder the drive cannot read some files the can be JPG's Access Database files, Excel files or Excel files and occasional Music or Video files. I have tried Bulk, group and even single copy but the same files still cannot be read, However I have an even older Western Digital WD 3200 BEV 300 Gb USB hdd which will copy and/or backup all files with absolutely no problems, there is plenty of free space left on both drives. any pointers would be appreciated.
I do not have a user guides for either drives so maybe I am not doing something correctly.
My Laptop is a HP g6-220-sa 1TB HD 6 GB RAM i15 Windows 8.

Your system drive can contain several files that have read/write protection (system files) as example if you install software it can place its files (even in documents) and give file properties with it in security access lists. They can block you from copying a whole folder/drive by selecting all you want to move to another drive, just 1 file has to be like that and you'll get this.

If the files that have this are listed like: cannot copy file (ignore/cancel) then locate them, there is a small workaround (but the software companies wouldnt like it haha :) )and if they're in the same folder (likely due to software files having this) either go to the folder properties or the specific file's, click the tab Security and ''Advanced'' then...

'Take ownership', go to effective access rules/similar text and check all access (Full Access, special access/read write)

close dialogs (it will say: after taking ownership close and open for it to take effect, in a warning dialog) and use the normal dialog to double check your security listing on the properties/check all (full access checkboxes)

If its ok, you can now do anything with these files you want

Keep in mind its secured for a reason and this guide was for this specific case. If you would 'unlock' system files of Windows this way without this purpose you could open a door for viruses/be able to even delete Windows system files, be carefull with what you edit on files that are protected with a reason, by the software company, obviously.

Many thanks 'Blooker' for taking the time to read and respond to my Post.
I will try your suggestion next time I backup.
As I noted in my post the problem only occurs on the Ext' CBA drive not the Ext WD drive.
The other way I managed to get around this is to Expand the source documents folder and then Select the first and last Folder/File and then copy all the files to a folder on the backup drive again in one go, the rejected files are then copied without issues just by expanding the parent folder ! !
