Trying to install windows 7 to upgrade from windows vista basic. During the install it said I needed to uninstall ATI Catalyst install manager and control center or they may not work properly. Can I uninstall these two programs and they not affect anything? Or can I just go ahead with the instal?

Welcome to Tom's Hardware newcomer!

It will be safe for you to uninstall the aforementioned software's and once you're done with your windows upgrade installation, re-install Catalyst and the software package.

Is there any reason you can't do a clean install? Up at this point I think the upgrade feature was available once you purchased the appropriate key from Microsoft.

I'll just add this in to aid you in your endeavor;
Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 (custom installation)

Hope these help
