Hi,

I am planning to build my own PC for the first time and I am a little bit confused to what hardware I should buy.

Originally I had in my mind intel i5-3570k + Asus Z87-k, however I later on discovered Z87-k is not compatible with 3rd gen cpu. (Shall I buy haswell 4th gen [which one?] or stick to 3rd gen and find a different motherboard?)

Can some please help me ? Which CPU + motherboard to buy.

I be using my PC for multiple tasks with big applications frequently and occasionally playing some games, watching movies + using PC for CCTV recording.

Looking for something fast & reliable

Suggestions are welcomed. Thank you for your help in advance

Regards,
P

Solution
going with the corsair rm is much better than the EVGA supernova. the evga supernova has cheap components to meet a price made by HEC a questionable quality component company as described poor. the rest of the build is great :)

Hi The short answere is either the i5 - 3570k and ASUS Z77 Socket 1155 mother board, or the $th Gen Haswell ( i5 - 4670k ) and ASUS Z87 Socket 1150 Motherboard. As far as the Brand goes, you can use ASRock as well, as it is a good board and can save you some. It is also made by ASUS.

The reason why I chose i5 3570-k was the option of having of overclocking in future if required to 3.8GHz

Yes, the 4670K is the same but instead of Ivy Bridge, this one is Haswell based

Thank you all for your help guys, much appreciated .

I am going to be a little cheeky and ask for your help/advice on selecting a cooling system for the PC.

I have seen many but just confused which one to buy.

Is there any specific type of cooling system require for this CPU + Motherboard?

Haswell chips are a little toasty, and if you're going to overclock, couple your processor with at least a CM Hyper 212 EVO. Noctua makes some great air coolers as well, although a bit more expensive. Air cooling will overflow onto the MB as well, which would keep it cooler, but nothing significant.

H80i, or an H100i if you're looking to water cool.

From the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like you're wanting to overclock too much. You could probably get by with the stock cooler for awhile. The 4670K turbos itself to ~3.8-3.9 GHz anyway.

yes there is. the 12volt is multiple. which he needs to be careful on the components he plugs in and not exceed 20amps limit on each rail. a single rail offers better easier and cleaner power. no need to worry what you plug in. its known the Super nova is a bad unit made by HEC.
