366i2 emachine older motherboard pci.
Wary Pup linux loads but some drivers not working such as sound.
I have tried both ubuntu and mint linux but both fail with the error piix2 smbus is not enabled.
I am thinking it could be a simple bios upgrade to resolve the issue, I found that emachines no longer supports this model.
Where can I get a bios update and will this solve my problem? or am I missing a setting jumper or other setting?

Not a BIOS issue. The kernel you're running doesn't have support for that chipset. It may have been deprecated and removed or simply not enabled. Either way you're going to have to roll your own kernel for that board. Try one of the *buntu live DVD's as a test.
