Corsair vengeance 8gb

Asus blue ray reader cd/dvd writer
Corsair SP120 x 5 AF140 x 2
EVGA gtx 780ti x 2 (super clocked reference card style)
Estimated around 720-770 watts of power by pc picker, this retardedly overpriced system dubbed "THE MANHATTAN PROJECT V.2" is powered by a Corsair AX860. This platinum rated power supply substitutes the original psu i had planned, the gold rated RM1000. I will be purely gaming on this rig (bf4) maybe some net surfing and Blue ray movie watching just to let you know what kind of strains this system will be under. Also is 8 gigs of ram enough i wont be doing any video editing in the near future altho the prospect of making montages is luring i wont be doing that to start. Thank you for any responses =)

You'll still be in dual channel with 4 sticks. 2x8GB sticks would give you upgradeability in the future, but 4 sticks would be a tad bit (almost negligibly) faster. 2x8GB sticks would also be cheaper, and put slightly less (again, almost negligibly) less strain on the memory controller.

In the end, it doesn't really matter, but for upgradeability, I would get 2x8GB sticks if I was in your situation :)
That system, even when overclocked, will run you around 600-625w at peak load (stress testing), so the AX860 will be just fine. It's much better than the RM1000, as the RM series uses cheap capacitors, which you don't want to be using in a setup like that lol

And 8GB is minimum for video recording, but it depends on what resolution and size of clips you'll be editing. For small videos, 8GB is fine, but if you plan on high quality large files, you'll want more.

Yeah thats what i thought =) i figured a higher rated psu over a larger power range of a less rated psu would be the way to go. I always see peoples builds that are similar with these huge power supplys that never made sense to me. Now that i think about it monatges would be cool and i have never been able to record my gameplay because of xbox360 and battlefield never having a battle recorder so it would be pretty slick 2x4 sticks of red vengeance ram here i come =) thanks bro. Quickly do you know if there are any benefits to running 16 gigs split up over 4 sticks as opposed to just two sticks of eight each? i.e. more channels?

Unfortunately, 4 sticks of RAM can be slower than 2 sticks of RAM in a dual-channel scenario. 4x4gb in quad channel IS faster, but 4x4 is dual channel IS NOT.

I would recommend sticking with the 2v4 sticks, no pun intended. You can upgrade later if you need it, which I doubt you ever will.

Would the motherboard make a difference, meaning, if i have a higher end board such as the VI HERO. Also if there is a depreciation in speed then by what margins are we talking?

As with all RAM measurements, the differences are marginal past 8GB DDR 3 1600.

Here is the first article google brought me... http://www.techbuyersguru.com/Ramgaming2.php

There are other interesting reads - I recommend checking anandtech for a thourough RAM speed article they did not long ago.

I am only submitting to you that 16GB will offer negligible gains for 99% of appllications and games, and will cost you another 50+ dollars. Further, as already mentioned, you may actually LOSE a few FPS going with the extra 2 sticks.

You should keep the 2x4 sticks, and when technology improves to the point where you need more RAM, you can pick up the latest and greatest 2x8 sticks and throw the other ones out. The 2x4 sticks you already have will probably last the life of your PC with no need to upgrade (provided they are at least 1600MHZ DDR 3).

Just my 2 cents.
