10GB 800MHz or 8GB 1600MHZ

I am thinking about upgrading the RAM in my computer. I currently have 10GB of DDR3 memory @ 800MHz. My games are running quite slowly, even with an insanely overclocked R9 270x.

I am thinking about buying a 8GB RAM stick @ 1600MHz, would this be better then my 10GB @ 800MHz? I think it would be, I just want to make sure.

I would definitely go with the 8GB, I didn't know they even had ddr3 that was 800MHz. I've heard that around 1600MHz is where you start to get diminishing returns, but you should definitely notice a performance increase moving from 800 to 1600.

Actually it turns out I am running 10GB RAM at 1600MHz right now. Because I am running dual-channel, CPU-Z divides my RAM speed by 2...

I guess the next thing to do is look at my processor...
