I saw that there has been discussion about <link removed> in this forum. Several people have said that it isn't possible to buy a key legally. Although I have seen ads on ebay in which people who have an old key are selling them - I would think that someone who bought a program, (e.g., windows vista) would be able to sell their old program if they upgrade to windows 7 or 8, including the key that came with the old program. And if they're able to sell the program with the key, why couldn't they also just sell the key?

In any case, I got a key from <link removed> and it activated with no problem.

It may have 'activated', but no, it is not 'legit'. And might become 'unactivated' at any time.

The specific licensing agreement determines how or if you can 'sell' that Windows license.
For instance - A preinstalled Windows Vista OEM license can only be sold along with the actual hardware.

You can read the licensing agreement here:

I checked with microsoft over the phone and they said the key is good.
