My old computer died the other night. It would start for a second and then cut off and smell burnt. So I swapped out the power supply, no change, then I swapped out the CPU, no change.

I purchased a new Motherboard, CPU, and Ram. The old system was a: Asus M2n Sli Deluxe MB, AMD Athlon dual core 3.1, and 8 gbs ddr2 ramm, with a 120gb SSD.

The new system/components are: Asus A88X-Pro MB, AMD A10 5800K CPU, and 1 stick of 8gb DDR3 Viper RAMM.

I've re-used most of my old components: Bluray writer, DVD writer, Nvidia 550 Ti card, and a 120gb SSD. Some of my old components had IDE strips that couldn't be used any more( 2 dvd writers, a Floppy with USB 2.0 card reader, and a 1394 case connection) because there was no IDE connection on the new MB and I just figured I'd leave some of the old things off this new system for cost and streamline my system.

Problem:

The SSD has windows 7 installed from the previous build but the computer will not boot up windows. When I start the system I see the windows 7 boot screen, the 4 colored windows flag but then a quick flash to a blue screen and the system continues to restart and run the same cycle. I've tried booting from the windows disc and running repair but it's doesn't work.

Is there a way to run the system without re-installing windows all over again?

If anyone one can offer some help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Solution
Your best solution is a clean install. The old version on your SSD is tied to the old hardware configuration in a number of ways. When you try to boot it is looking for the old chipset connections that provide the links to the on board and other devices (USB hubs, sound, and others). Take the time do it right and you will save much time and annoyance/frustration.

Yeah, I thought so but I was hoping there might be some kind of "work-around-windows 7-magic".

I'll go ahead and format it and start fresh. Thank you guys for answering.
