My roommate bought a pc at officemax because they were switching locations so they had a closing out sale and he bought a pc for $400, I told him he should have just built one. But he decided to buy it and now he still has $600, and he wants me to help him upgrade it, but I don't know much more than he does and he only asked me because I recently built a few for work, and one for myself.

What he has:
CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA440 Gaming Desktop

He has $600 to spend and asked me to help him pick what he needs to make it better, but I don't know what that would be. Any help would be great thnks.

EDIT: He is in no hurry to upgrade it, but would prefer it to be done within the month.

Solution
If he really wants to keep the pc then this will be definitely needed:

If theres any way to return that PC please do so. For 1000$ you could have an amazing machine that would be 5 times better minimum. Also does he need a monitor?
Heres a $1000 build that I was talking about, i just didnt include a mouse and monitor as those are the users preference.

RazerZ had the right idea but if you want a better performance CPU you need a better motherboard as well. I also added a SSD for more speed while using the PC.

Thanks dempy19, when he gets home in a half hour Ill show him the list and what you said. And regarding the SSD, he said he was going to talk to our boss about getting one of the spares. It will probably be a 512gb Samsung 840 pro SSD.

Alright well my roomie Louis said he'd be willing to buy those parts. and he also said that our boss will give him an SSD but it will be a Samsung 256GB 830 series.

EDIT: he said that he will use any left over money to buy a gaming headset, so if you have any recommendations, it would be appreciated.

thats great about the SSD. as for the headset its really up to him because it really is about personal preference. but i would recommend an astro headset like the A40 or A50, or even steelseries have some good headsets. dont fall for the 7.1 speakers marketing crap, tell him to get a set that is 2.1 but has virtual surround 5.1 or 7.1. I'd personally stay away from Logitech but thats my opinion (bad experience).

And thanks for picking my answer for the solution!

hope this helps!
