So I've got a 1TB Seagate hard drive which is only a month old. It's no longer being connected to my laptop (Compaq presario CQ43, old I know) - it's suddenly stopped. My understanding is that all 3 USB ports on this laptop are 2.0, but even though the USB for the hard drive is 3.0 it should still be able to connect. It beeps when I plug it in, and the blue light comes on but nothing happens after that. My laptop can't recognize it, nor can my TV, but this was possible a week ago - hard drive has not been dropped or tampered with, everything is in the same condition as when I bought it brand new. Help please! It's got Game of Thrones on there!

Sounds like you need to warranty exchange the drive. Download and run Seatools on it and see if their diagnostic software can see the drive.

Do you always 'eject' the drive before disconnecting it? not doing so can easily damage the file system or worse.

I figured as much, which sucks. Another thing that I did was put the files that were already on the hard drive into another folder...because I'm a folder person. Could that be the reason as well?

I did run Seatools, but it couldn't find the device either. I've always ejected it, apart from when I use it on my TV. I've searched for answers everywhere and it all comes down to the USB ports not being able to power it, however it was working before so I'm not sure that that is the reason for me.
