It seems that there is also only 4 different air coolers available for the new 1150 socket. Is that correct, or will older socket coolers work with it?
No there are numerous air coolers available for the 1150, they Hyper 212 EVO provides about the best bang for the buck though, guessing you are going a K series, so the 4770K with the EVO is good through about 4.4 at 24/7, the 4670K a bit higher 4.5 or so if running 24/7. Phantek has a few, as does Zalman, CoolerMaster, Noctua and others, might look here:

Hi. Most will fot multiple sockets. A cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will do nicely.
On this forum, that's what everyone seems to recommend. There are others though. You need to look at benchmarks - for cooling and noise and work out your budget. See: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPUCooling/774

I agree, the 212 Evo is a nifty little cooler, & you can do a very small OC while you're at it too!
The Evo does not work on 1150 board Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2. Causes unstable CPU. Seems the base of Evo is too large for socket. Causes too much pressure.
Just another aspect to consider: allowable space for DIMMS. The Noctua DH-14, for example, will NOT provide enough clearance if you happen to have Corsair Dominator Platinum type RAM. If you do have your heart set on a Noctua CPU fan cooler, be sure to check out their website where they list the RAM-types compatible with this specific cooler.
A topic form october 2014 which you drag out of the mud.No need to do that.It has got a best answer too, which means it's solved.Maybe look at this for your next answer here.
