If I was in a situation were the power to my home regally shut off or had blackouts or may run out time to time (self dependent situation, wind power, etc..)

Could I make the power of my desktop working the same way as my laptop, so if power is disconnected it will switch to a battery then safely shut down/sleep when that runs out. As Im assuming its bad for your desktop if you just pullout the power cord.
I don't need for it to be-able to run off battery for any length of time (Nor could I as id be running something like an i7 4770k and 780ti)

Sorry if I haven't explained my self well, just answer to the best of your ability. :)

hi limbothefirst
fkr is correct ,
what you need is a UPS ,( uninterruptable power supply) or battery backup,
over winter we get regular power blackouts here and the ups i have gives me 30 minutes to save what i'm doing before my pc power dies
my wife and i both have one and we use Belkin UPS they work great and have saved losing data or projects you are half way through when the power dies ( a great idea ) , Belkin and Cyberpower make the best ones

the good ones will give you a warranty and guarantee that if anything gets fried due to lightning strike etc that is hooked up to it like your pc you will be covered for up to $50000...

these are what you need

you can make your own

an uninterruptable power supply. these are what coprs use incase of a power outage (hospital ect.)

they are a good idea. you could have a bank of lead acid batteries or lithium iron (LiFe) batteries then voltage regulate them also but you will have to do the reading and learning on that. it is to in depth and potentially dangerous to guide from a forum
