Windows 7 compatability

Will I be able to install W7 (32bit) on a machine with a socket 939 motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 single core processor. This will be a clean install as I intend fitting a 500G new hard drive. If so can I use the O.E.M version?

  1. It depends on your CPU and installed RAM
But your 939 socket motherboard can run Windows 7 without a problem. :)
  2. It's unlikely you're going to find Windows 7 drivers for a motherboard that old (but it won't hurt to check). Not finding drivers could mean issues with networking (access to the internet) and (on-board) audio issues. Otherwise, it should work just fine.

  3. Thanks for the info. Guess I am going to give it a whirl. Am going to a computer fair today (Sunday). and will ask there. Would have liked an answer about which version of W7 as the people at the fair will try to sell me anything!

Win 7 Home Premium OEM. If it will actually work on that hardware.
  5. You can install any version of Windows (7 Home Premium, Ultimate, Professional, or any version of Windows 8/8.1), but you'll still be limited by your old hardware. If drivers are not available, then certain functions will not work (Network, Audio, etc...).
