Hi guys, let me test your knowledge :)
I have an acer aspire laptop which runs one of my favourite games "mount and blade" but it's hdd is buggered and so am looking for a slightly more powerful laptop. I'm well aware laptops for gaming are something of a sin to pc gamers but I'm not looking to play battlefield 3 or 4 or anything like that. My aim is to sell my ps4 to put toward something that could run say...... Dark souls 2.
I have a budget of 500 pound give or take.
Cheers lads.

We're not sure of how Dark Souls 2 will actually run at the recommended specs yet, and you won't be able to expect to run it on the equivalent of PS3 hardware since the PC version from comparison screens on IGN has enhanced detail LoD, higher shadow resolutions, higher resolution textures, etc.

I'd wait until Dark Souls 2 releases. After that it'll be much easier to see what's actually needed to run it. As a PS3 port, it's probably CPU heavy, which will help for a laptop.

Thanks rationale,
I see what you mean about being heavy on the cpu as I tried to run dayz (the arma mod) and my poor laptop went into a seizure. I went into curry's today to ask about gaming laptops, and they all assume I want cutting edge graphics for the latest games. As I'm getting older I guess I just don't care about graphics much. I've never gamed on pc before, been a Sony fan boy for 26 years! But there is souvh choice for pc/laptop gaming. And I want in!......(on a budget) ;-)

HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx
I found this on ebay. It's an old model but runs dayz, fallout 3 etc on med settings and 20-30 fps (which Ok for me) . At £250 would you say it's a good deal?

Unfortunately, the APU in that last laptop is very weak, and I suspect it's not usable for games above minimum settings at 480p, if at all.
Its only benefit is ultra-low power consumption, meant for environmentally friendly laptops and long battery life. Although that's a nice goal, that still means it's not really usable for games.

Very strong CPU (which is probably what drove the price up), but terrible graphics card. The GT 610m isn't meant for any gaming really. :/

More detailed specs on that laptop (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/z-series/z500/#techspecs) indicate that it has Intel HD 4000 graphics, which is a graphics chipset integrated into the CPU.
I'm sorry to reject another one, but unless you want to run games at minimum, it wouldn't be a very good option. These are some benchmarks of games on that CPU/graphics chipset combination.

I'll see if I can find some suitable laptops within your budget.
