Hi,

I've just upgraded my graphics card to a msi GTX 780 Ti (gaming edition) and finnaly attempted to run Metro Last Light @ 1080p in very high quality, 3X SSAA, AF 16X, etc. and am getting big fps variations (25-60 fps). Now, I know over 30 - 40 fps is an "acceptable" framerate but I've seen benchmarks for this graphics card hitting over 75 fps in the same settings with not very different hardware from mine (non overclocked benchmarks)

My hardware:
GTX 780 Ti
i7 3820 @ 3.6GHz
24gb RAM

I've tried using GeForce Experience's optimized settings but barely no improvements at all. I also tried using the card in overclock mode from msi's gaming app and no big improvements either.

I have the latest PhysX driver and turning it off won't do me any good.

Is this the game's fault or am I missing something?

Thanks!

I'm a hardcore Metro: LL fan too, I have all of it's DLC and I beat the game 3 times and beat all the DLC numberous times. The game does run smooth on high end hardware, you just can't use 3xSMAA as it's VERY demanding. It's almost like running the game at 4k resolution and it becomes more and more laggy as you turn up SMAA. And personally, on my big 27 inch 1920x1080p IPS gloss Dell monitor, I can't even tell the difference between 1xSMAA, and 3xSMAA. 1xSMAA helps to smooth things out but I only notice 1xSMAA if I set my monitor to show really sharp images where you can tell if there's pixelation.

no your configuration is quite ossom gtx 780,i7,24gb ram are you feffin kidding me
i think they must be showing average fps
fps variations are usuall due to depth(distance from viewer/camera) if you look in the distance the gpu's got to crunch more no.s

also what is your psu(are you sure about viruses)

atleast 600w i guess

i would recommend reducing antiliasing ssaa to minimum possible
if with such a good configuration you are not getting required fps .there's a very high chance that the game is not well optimized (it can't use the gpu/processor to its full potential)
example assassin's creed 4 black flag WHATEVER config you use it won't go over 60 fps

99% chances its the games problem
but you should check your task manager for background tasks other than that i don't think you can do anything

I had similar issues with the same GPU, though slightly weaker CPU/Ram combo but 1440p monitor fullscreen, and ended up going through the graphics options line by line line at the games start to track it down. Eventually when I disabled SSAA, with all other settings back to where they were on high, I immediately jumped from 15-20 fps to a steady 70-80fps all else being equal. Sadly steam derped shortly thereafter and I had to reinstall my library so I wasn't able to to do further testing that night but it still may be worth looking at.

Once its reinstalled I plan on running the same test again with everything else turned up back to VHigh and see what happens. As a final note this is purely stock as well as I have not yet tried overclocking anything.

***

I did some additional testing and at VHigh settings my FPS once again took a nosedive. After some further searching I went and disabled Advanced Nvidia Physics, under a separate menu and requiring a restart, but afterwards in the same beginnings scenes after you wake up I saw a very large FPS jump. Strangely enough and perhaps with a bit of irony I re-enabled low levels of SSAA afterwards with little impact.

Your BIGGEST problem is that your using 3xSMAA. It's crazy to use 3xSMAA in Metro LL. In Tom's Hardware's benchmarks they don't even use SMAA when benching Metro LL on high end hardware.

Metro LL is notoriously hard to run, and adding 3xSMAA really hurts you.

I have an EVGA GTX780 SC Edition that's overclocked to 1200Mhz on the core and 7000Mhz on the memory, so it's pretty much a GTX780Ti or maybe even faster. I can run Metro LL on Very High settings, with MAX tessellation, and 2xSMAA, and I'll get playable performance in around the 45-60FPS area with no noticeable stuttering or lag. But if I put on 3xSMAA, immediately the lag comes in and my game only runs from 30-50FPS, and the games not smooth at all.

So it's NOT your graphics card, it's the settings your trying to use. Why are you using 3xSMAA anyways? You don't need more than 1xSMAA. SMAA absolutely KILLZ this game, which is why Tom's doesn't even use that setting.

I know for 100% certain this is your problem. As I have basically the same PC you have and I'm running the same game with the same problem.

Another problem MIGHT be PhysX. You can disable it in game my going to option>game options>PhysX and uncheck the box. Although I'm sure 3xSMAA is really hurting you, PhysX could possibly be too.

At the MOST I would but 1xSMAA, maybe none, and turn off PhysX cause it doesn't make a huge difference.

Hey man i had sudden Slow downs too & i totaly solved it by Updating the Game to Version 1.3 ... 1.14 is out too but Any Update after 1.3 contains DLCS beside Performance fix .

SO if you just need to fix the performance issue then go for 1.3 . i have tried DLCs they dont have much to offer .

this game has problem with physx which Verison 1.3 fixes it . if your still having issues after update then try turning off Physx , turn down SSAA ( its a HUGE fps eater ) ,check your power options ( it might be on power saving :) ) good luck

Hey.

I recently got a GTX 780 Ti aswell and Metro: Last Light runs like a slug.
The only thing holding our frame rate back is the resolution. I have a 27" Monitor, so I run everything in native resolution, which is 2560 x 1440.

People seem to forget to mention Resolution as a factor for low fps and always blame their low fps on AA, shadows, Textures and so on.
No matter how good your computer is, pumping resolution up to the highest that your monitor can fit, takes it's toll on all computers whether it's noticeable or not.

If you're doing the same..... It's the resolution. It will run beautifully in 1920 x 1080 with full settings, even though my geforce experience says it's optimal to run native
Which is a shame. Metro is one of the better looking games of 2013. But if you want a really sexy game, get Remember Me. So good on that card.

Also check for the latest physx driver.
They made a note to fix Metro last light on some systems.
