Hi Gang,
Using a 2013 MacMini for theatrical playback. Quad-core i7 w/HD4000, 4GB (3 1/2 effective), OS 10.8.5.
Driving a 1440 x 900 control monitor via DVI and 1080 projector via HDMI.
From a cold boot everything is fine. Eventually the HDMI starts flaking out and disappears completely. Replaced the Mini with my 2012 MacBook Pro (Dual-core i7 w/ HD4000 & 8 GB RAM. The setup works flawlessly with MacBook & PC.
Suspected heat as the problem, I downloaded Geeks3D GpuTest & Temperature Monitor. On a flat surface, 68 deg F room, Geeks3D GpuTest (OS X x64) - FurMArk OpenGL Engine, windowed at 1024 x 640; the CPU/GPU overheats and throttles. Temp rises to 103-104 deg C then jumps back to 90 in an endless cycle.
Is the Mini cooling system really that inadequate? I've already made four trips to the Apple store until I finally convinced the geniuses to replace a bad hard drive. Not impressed with the "Genius Bar" staff.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
~Alden
