How to upgrade an old system

I'm hoping to get a few years more use out of an old system.
I've upgraded the processor from a dual core to a Q9560 and with AIO liquid cooling hope to hit 4ghz.
The memory has been upped from 2 gig to 8gig pc8500.
The operating system has to stay XP64 to maintain old peripherals, and because I really like it.
The aim is to get enough speed out of it to make a credible back-up box for Photoshop and maybe even... After Effects! So I need a FAST scratch/cache disk. I've also got two samsung 840 pro's, one intended for the OS and apps, the other for a scratch disk

The trouble is, I forgot about the board's lack of SATA 3.

The board has 4 SATA 2.0 ports with intel's ICH7R allowing a raid option.
There are also 3 Marvel external sata 3 ports, also RAIDable.
The board also spare PCIEx16 slots.

Any suggestions for getting a decent throughput for the Sammys would be appreciated.
As I'm aiming for a budget upgrade, more exotic (expensive) solutions are out. Sorry.

Thanks

Yes, and thanks.
Of course the problem is that with each SATA ii being limited to 300MBs, much of the two raided SSDs performance would be lost.
I think I might have to find a cheap pci sata iii raid card.
:(

any recommendations for 'not-so-cheap' raid cards?
Raid cards seem to be divided into cheap and eye-wateringly expensive.

I cant tell you any specific good models off the top of my head, but I've seen some pretty unreliable raid cards.

In my opinion, you wont notice the difference between having sataIII and sata II. You may get lower "scores" in synthetic benchmarks, but what you will feel when you use it will be pretty much the same.

I suggest you start a new thread if you absolutely want a raid card; others will be able to help you out better on that regard.
