Hello.
I currently own a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 keyboard and I have to admit this is one of the best keyboards I've ever used. However it's nearing the end of its life. After almost 2 years of being used a gaming keyboard it's finally showing signs of old age. I'll get random keyboard freezes and disconnects out of no where and unplugging is the only way to fix it.
I should start my research now before the keyboard does kick the bucket. I'm planning on buying a mechanical keyboard. I already know what what switch type I want, Cherry MX red. I wanted a linear key because I do a lot of key spams in games and I've tried both the blacks and the reds. After using nothing but rubber dome keyboards for almost my entire life the reds are the closest to the feeling that I know.
What made me decide to go with a mechanical keyboard and not another rubber dome is the durability. It feels like I'm always buying defective products. I had a Tt Esports black gaming mouse that broke a month before the warranty ended. Got a replacement and after 2 months of using that it broke again. I now own a Logitech G600 mouse. I've also had problems with my MSI motherboard. Probably just my inexperience though with changing the settings. Also had a pair of small $50 speakers that you can plug into a phone. Speaker cones cracked on those about 6 months later.
Well I have a few keyboards in mind as well as some questions about the Logitech keyboards. The maximum I'm willing to spend on the keyboard is $120 (without the shipping and tax).
First keyboard up is the Coolermaster CM storm quickfire XT
I've heard nothing but good feedback about the Coolermaster keyboards. I really like the simple and sleek designs of their keyboards and the amount of options you get for their keyboards is amazing.
Next is the Corsair Vengeance K70
Another keyboard I've heard good reviews about. It has everything I want on a keyboard. Numberpad, multi-media keys, and a sleek design. The only problem with it is it has red LEDs. I have 4 blue LED fans and my G600 lights up blue. Would look very weird with a bright red keyboard. Though the LEDs can be turned off and the keyboard is $130 but since it's Corsair and I trust them as much as I do Logitech, I'd be willing to buy it.
The last one I never heard of nor did I know they made a keyboard. The Gigabyte Aivia Osmium
Probably not the best choice. About a third of the reviews are complaints about the keyboard failing within the first year. In terms of functionality and price for $120, I couldn't ask for more. It has a number pad, multi-media keys, macro keys, it even lights up, and complements my Raidmax Orion case nicely. Though I probably won't ever use it's USB 3.0 pass-through or audio jacks. Again there's the issue of the keyboard failing within the first year. I'm fine with passing this keyboard up if I have about a 60% chance of it lasting past a year or 2.
Now for questions about the Logitech keyboards. How good are they really? I know those keyboards have a lot of features and if I had to choose I would probably take the cheapest one. There's no way I would use all the features of their G19s nor do I need the LCD screens.
I'm looking at the G105. What are the key types. They're certainly not mechanical switches. Are they rubber domes? Saw a couple videos and the keyboard looks about as sturdy as my Microsoft keyboard, which I don't like about it. I've been know to pound the keyboard a bit in a fit of rage.
Looking over all the material I guess the quickfire XT would be the best choice. Though I guess it is hard to compare to the K70 when they're in different price brackets and have different features. What are your opinions? If you have a suggestion for a different Cherry mx red keyboard let me know.
