GPU Tweaking Lower Settings, is it any good for temps?

Hi everyone,

First of all a disclaimer, this obviously belongs to the category "underclocking",
but since that doesn't exist I put it in the category "overclocking".

I care about my pc parts, and I want them to last as long as possible.
So I was wondering... Does it help to lower GPU clocks and GPU memory clocks?
I want to lower them during internet surfing and such,
in order to get lower temps which help my pc.

I use GPU Tweak from ASUS on my GTX 780 DCUII, and the lowest I can get is:
GPU Boost Clock (MHz) - 836 (offset -105);
Memory Clock (MHz) - 4508 (offset -1500).

i noticed that, during my configs, the temps went up from 25C to 30C,
which is weird because I was actually lowering clockspeeds :/

Is it best to leave my clocks to the standard settings,
or should I put them as low as possible when I'm not gaming?

Thanks :)

First off, why did you get a GTX 780 if you're just going to be web surfing? or are you also gaming? Second of all, even if you are gaming, a GTX 780 is overkill unless you have 3+ monitors. A GTX 760 is substantial for a single monitor. Thirdly, it isn't worth all the fuss to gain maybe 1-2 months of component life.

Yes I do game, and I got the GTX 780 because I don't want to buy a new videocard in a few years but still play games at ultra/high settings. And thank you for your answer because I was just wondering :) I'll keep the clock on normal settings then.
