Not getting a signal from my t3418 emachine to my s2340m dell monitor. I have changed the PSU to 400w and also 2 gigs of ram. I do realize I may have to get a new vga cord but if that does not work can I put a ATI Radon 9200 (128mb memory) from 1 of my other computers in? Would this be a hard job? Forgot to say computer is booting up fine just no picture

Solution

My first two machines were eMachines. I upgraded both to the max with no problems...

Are you getting a message that says No Signal?

Finally got a solution to my question. After running the Windows upgrade assistant and talking to MS to make sure my XP could be updated (given a solid yes) I take my computer to a technician, that was not getting paid and was told no - you can't update because emachines is not offering updates for your system. The updates are needed to work with Windows 8.1. I call myself really doing research cause didn't want to buy and could not use. So if you're getting no signal to your monitor and you've just added a new hard drive - more ram - power supply or video card and you're upgrading from XP, it probably won't help. Will be calling MS tomorrow.

My first two machines were eMachines. I upgraded both to the max with no problems. Those upgrades included, Processor. Memory, Powersupply, and Graphics. I don't remember what the model numbers were, but I think the second one was a T5212. As of 8 April, they wil no longer be sending out updates for XP as they are no longer supporting it. My last eMachines, I was upgrading the processor. In doing so, I need to upgrade the BiOS. The Motherboard was an Intel Motherboard with an eMachines modified BiOS. The was an eMachines BiOS up date that loked right for the Processor, but I went over to Intel, and they had several BiOS updates for that board. I flashed the Intel BiOS update. It worked fine, but after some thought, I decided that it may not be a good idea and I didn't want to brick the computer so went back and flashed the latest ( and last ) eMachines BiOS update which did fine for the new processor. I have also called eMachines Tech support ( as well as Intel ) about the memory speed. They said that 533 Mhz was the max. I installed 667 Mhz and it ran fine AND at 667 Mhz. The FSB ( Front Side Bus ) was 800 Mhz, but never tried 800 Mhz ram. Your problem is definiotely a Graphics issue in that you are not receiving a signal from the GPU. If you have a card, then you can try that and see. Make sure your Cable is plugged in correctly at the Monitor as well as the port on the computer. If you change to the card, then make sure you are plugged inot the port on the card. Also, make sure the onboard graphics have been disabled in the Device Manager.
