Battlefield 3/4 freezing my system completely!

I played 3 every so often and it would just freeze instantly after a few minutes of playing and I could hear my computer slowly getting louder and louder. Now it's the exact same on 4.

Is it RAM? Or something else? It only happens on BF. I play League of Legends, WoW.. etc. And my system passes on CanYouRunIt so I just don't understand why it freezes and gets really loud and probably hotter.

Cheers.

What are your system specifications?

Hey,

its sounds like your CPU or GPU is overheating. BF3 and BF4 are more hardware demanding games than LoL and WoW that's why you only get the system freezing in the first 2. Your PC is getting louder and louder because the fans are starting to spin faster to try and lower the temps.

Download http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and keep an eye on your CPU and GPU temperatures.

If your temps are getting higher than the recommended for your specific hardware (check online) then you have to make sure that your CPU and GPU coolers are properly installed, that there is sufficient airflow in your PC case and that all fans are not clogged with dust etc. Good cable management is essential too.

And I think I read here somewhere that BF3 and I think BF4 have had bugs that'll cause freezing up. So make sure you've got the latest versions of each of them too.

Specs;

AMD-FX8350
8GB RAM
Radeon HD 6870

I've cleaned it in the past Mouldread and it didn't do anything for it so I don't think it's that?

I'll check HWMonitor though, sure. Maybe my system isn't good enough though. I'm not sure.

If your system specs are low for a game it would either not start at all or it would just be unplayable (low FPS) - it won't make your PC freeze or restart. And your system is fine anyway.

I still think it's a cooling problem. Try to see the temps while in game and post them here.

Sometimes cleaning the dust isn't enough, you need to make sure the heatsinks make good contact with the CPU, GPU etc. and that an adequate amount of good quality thermal paste has been applied prior of installing them.

If your PC case is on the smaller side and your cable management isn't particularly good, if you have none, or only 1 fan blowing in air but no exhaust fan for example, if your fans are blowing in the wrong direction or are positioned badly, all this can cause the system to overheat when you start some hardware intensive application - like modern 3D games.

Yeah it is definitely a heat issue.

I just turned BF back on and removed my side panel on the PC to see if it would help lower the heat any but it didn't. It still went as loud as it did before.

Checked the temps before I closed the game and they were just slowly climbing and I could hear my system get louder and louder in increments.

My GPU when I'm not in a game is at 65-68C and my CPU when not in game is at like 22C.

I put BF4 back on, and the GPU went up to 90C and didn't seem to stop rising so I turned it off so I didn't have to restart my system again and my CPU went to 74C.

I have a fan at the front of the computer and one at the back. I'm assuming this isn't the smartest option then?

Cheers.

Also I use the Stock cooler for the CPU and the GPU may be a bit dirty. I was thinking of buying a new GPU though.

Hey,

The GPU temps are definitely high - in idle should be probably around 28-32. With the awesome CPU you've got if you bought a new GPU (something like R9 280x or a GTX 770 for example) you'll be flying in games. Depends on what your budged is. Buying a new GPU will also save you the hustle of trying to fix the old GPU temps.

Thanks man it's gone to 45-48 idle now.

It is not a high temperature issue. Temperature reading programs and punkbuster cause this issue. Also tuneup utilities service was causing this. Close all of them. BF3 is bugged and DICE do not give a ...
