Does the Dell XPS 400 Duo core 2.8ghz machine have hyperthreading or not?

Hi,
I Just picked up a Dell XPS 400 2.8ghz machine.
In the manual it states it it a Duo Core Pentuim 4 socket T with hyperthreading.
And the Chipset is a 945P

Now I read up on the cpu and 945 chipset.
The CPU is supposed to have hyperthreading
But I read the 945 chipset is not hyperthread capable. And when coupled with the Pentium D Exterme Edition it would make it like a Pentium D - no hyperthreading.

So I'm getting confused - Dell says it has hyperthreading in the owners manual
The chipset says it is not capable.

I had three sticks of ddr2 512 ram in it when I picked it up. - (pulled when I bought it)
and it only showed 2 cores in the Device manager (win7)

If it was hyperthreaded - it would have shown 4 cores, correct?
Even with only three sticks of ram in it at the time?

My questions is, is it hyperthreaded or is it not?
If not why would Dell say it is?

I'm asking because the guy that sold it to me said it was as well.
I don't want to waste money buying ram for it if it is not.

(I could have stuck with my HP duo core if that is the case. )

Could use some help to clarify this for me.

Here is the Dell XPS Owners manual:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_xps_desktop/xps-400_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf

you can see in the specifications that it states in has Hyperthreading.
And why I ask as well - why would Dell say it does when it doesn't?

And given what you are saying that it doesn't with the 840 processor

Could I put a different socket 775 cpu that does have hyper-threading capability? Say a 3.06ghz Duo core?
and would that mean even if I did change the cpu - I still wouldn't have hyperthreading due to the 945P chipset?

@ WhiteSnake - I downloaded the Service manual for it last night.
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_xps_desktop/xps-400_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdf

Apparently it shipped with either a single core Pentium 4 socket T with hyper-threading or a Duo Core (the Pentium D Smith...)

No not gaming - it was to be a temporary comp to tie me over for few weeks - my other comp can't handle what I'm doing and I'm jonesing for a comp for creation. If it was what it claimed to be - it would have served it's purpose if I uped it to a 3.6ghz duo core x64 with Hyper-threading.

Apparently - common sense states that if the 945P chipset isn't capable of hyper-threading. The single core hyperthreading is useless in the cpu - the dual channels are useless in the ram.
and Duo core with hyper-threading is out as well. Which would have given me 4 buckets for rendering.

@ Bubblehead - yeah agreed all hype ie: called bs, miss-representation - or plain old lying in most areas of the world.
I for one am sick of it, especially by the electronic companies who make the comps and monitors and TV's etc etc.

I shouldn't have to have a major in computer science and reverse engineer a motherboard and it's combined components to find out whether or not a company is feeding myself and everyone else a line of bull about a systems capabilities.

Apparently they are begging to be regulated - "special" regulations for the electronics industry.
Currently - no company is supposed to miss-rep their product.

Unbeleivable that this was a $4,000 system when it came out and they tossed a line of bull to sell it.
Does any company actually tell the truth about their boards and combined gear. I mean actually have a MB with compatable components that can be truly upgraded with out shortcomings by the chipset or drivers not being issued when it comes time to upgrade the CPU?

They have a Quad-Core LGA socket 775 - I should by all rights be able to put that on this machine with out problems.
A waste of time from what I now understand about the limitations of the chipset on this MB. If it could be done at all.

I guess I'll just have to start saying - "Bullshit" to everything.
You'll get up to 480mbs with USB2 - "Bullshit
10 time the speed of USB2 with USB3 - "Bullshit"
And if you get anywhere close to 120mbs - half of the transferred data is corrupt - "Oh finally some truth...

Just running out and buying the ram and be happy... yeah that would have been a waste of money and made me real happy. Not! lol

But thanks for the replies...

One Dell XPS 400 for sale - real cheap!
