GPU Upgrade for existing system w/ 450w PSU & A10-6800k

Hi guys, just need a bit of help with something.

my current system is serving me well, but now I'm thinking about GPU upgrades to improve gaming performance on my 1600x900 monitor without replacing any existing components. my Specs are:

A10-6800k with pretty much stock cooler
2x4gb kingston hyperx genesis ram @ 1600mhz
ASUS® F2A85-M motherboard (2 pci slots, one x16, one x4)
Corsair vs-450 450w PSU
+ various other gubbins that shouldn't matter to GPU choice

I have a couple of concerns, such as heat (the A10 is pretty hot already) and noise, i hate stuff whirring away while i try to listen to music whilst gaming etc. money-wise, i dont really care, but below £200 is a must (I doubt any £200 cards will run in my system, but all the same..)

agreed gtx 750 - gtx 750 ti would be ideal.


you could keep your current psu, not worry about ram, and it has awesome performance even at 1080p.

I didn't say I was upgrading to those, if you read my post, since they are overkill for my system at 900p, let alone 1080p or more, i know my PSU isn't powerful enough for those, i'm asking what GPU's will best fit my existing PSU and system

You can use a R7-240 or 250 in dual graphics with that APU for a nice performance increase. Also your on- board graphics might see a significant performance increase by getting faster RAM.

if i didn't upgrade the ram, would the crossfire become lopsided/ lose performance? would I be better off buying a independant card like a 260 or 270 and using the intergrated graphics for a second screen in the future?

Great, thanks very much, will the nvidia discrete/amd intergrated mix cause issues if the intergrated is unused?

none, just make sure as you said to disable the integrated in the bios. use the a10 purely as a cpu. will help with temps as well.

If you do get a higher end card than the 250, weather 260-265-270- 750ti the on board graphics should become inert and unusable. In that case 1600MhZ will be plenty fast enough. I would just google the games that I play and find benchmarks for the card(s) that you are interested in and go from there.

Thanks, the 750ti seems perfect, it's small quiet and runs Planetside 2 on ultra, 40fps (my most demanding game) at 1050p!
