Hi,
I came out tonight and I only had one moniter. I looked in device manager and I only see one GTX460. I just bought this computer used and got 2 moniters set up on it (previous guy ran a tv moniter). It came with 2 Nvidea GTX460 and they were both working in SLI a day ago.
I guess I'll switch the connectors from the power supply and see if the power went out to one side. What are some other diagnostics I can do? I could take out the GTX460 that's not working and put it in another computer.
I did take the side of my case off, it's been off for several days. The guy also said that the machine is overclocked. The video card that seems to have gone out is the top card, would this be the hotter one? The fan is not as exposed, it's covered up by the other card.
There was no way to see this coming, I suppose (unless I really screwed up taking the case cover off) I've only had the computer for about a week.
What is the best cheapest way to get similar graphics (if it's not a PCI-E slot that went out). I was enjoying the good graphics-should I get a single card or buy another Nvidea GTX460.
I put my hand on the lower video card and it seems warmer than the top one-wonder if it's because the top one isn't working or what.
One other thing-I've had about 6 reboots today-pretty sure it's because of Calibre (library for books) which has a reputation for crashing other stuff. It seems like the last couple of reboots were when Calibre wasn't even running though. Also I just put on that screen saver SETI that uses the CPU to run a program to sort data, fournier analysis, wonder if that 'strain' has anything to do with anything?

Also I'm running Windows 7 professional 64 bit. Thanks in advance for any advice!

How much will I be 'losing' if I take the (?) 'misbehaving' Nvidia GTX460 out, and use two moniters.

Solution
If you get nothing from the primary card then swap cards and see what happens. If one card doesn't work, then I expect the nVidia control panel wouldn't let you SLI. If the primary card wasn't working you'd get nothing on the monitor. If the secondary card wasn't working the monitor should still work.

One 460 will struggle with 2 x 1080p monitors. I had a 560 and didn't even try 2 x monitors because I heard it would suck. You should be able to buy another 460 on eBay for $50. You should be moving to at least 6 series though. One 670 would keep you happy - about $200US on eBay.

Thanks for the reply!
It seems the GeForces 760 is $100 cheaper than the 670 (tigerdirect.com). It's only $269 for 760 (say's it's supports 4 moniters) and the GeForce 670 is $377 (tigerdirect.com) and the 760 has directX 12.
I don't know a lot about these things, but I should be getting a good increase with the 760 huh, with less cooling problems too (I hope)
Eventually I could put another on for SLI, if I wanted.
