Hi
I built a new rig and because of costs I settled for 8GB as a temporary measure.
I have http://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Skill-Ripjaws-DDR3-2133-Dual/dp/B0050119O0/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t. I'm looking to add this http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/memory-pc/ddr3pc3-170662133mhz/G.Skill/F3-2133C9D-16GXH.html?#utm_source=affiliatewindow&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=PCPartPicker on My Gigabyte Z87X UDH4 Haswell mobo. Will the new RAM work on my Board and be compatible with the existing RAM?
Thanks

Hi oAJAXo ,
i would stick with exactly the same ram you have to avoid any issues , you have the right idea going with the same brand ,
but the voltages on either sets are 1.5v and 1.6v and the timings are different this may cause you no end of problems and you may regret purchasing the new ram.
If your existing ram works fine then match it with exactly the same gskill modules it may save a headache and having to spend more

I totally agree with mickypheonix's assessment of what you have. IF POSSIBLE get the same set or you will lose performance. After knowing what I just asked. If the same kit Is unavailable then get the same brand with same speed and timings to "try" to make them be compatible.

I wondered if that might be a problem hence my post. The trouble is I cant find 16GB (2X8) of the same RAM.
I will be gaming mostly, but I do have a large collection of VHS i want to digitise and Edit/render. I cant afford to buy all new RAM but from scanning the odd forum on Video Rendering/Editing. 24GB is minimum. 16gb could be too slow.

I7baby has one thing wrong, to be sure of compatibility, he said "you need the same model and number", But there is an option like I mentioned before get the same brand, timings and the same speed you will have your best chance of compatibility.

as an example of brands working together. Take my secondary system as am example: 2x2GB of PNY PC2-6400 @800MHz and 2X2GB set of Kingston Hyper X T1 series PC2-8500 @1066MHz both clocked to 902MHz but both at a timings of 5-5-5-15-24 work well together.

so to help compatibility buy the same brand "G.Skill" and the same timings you have now. can be ares series or even higher as long as the same timings apply, your better off with compatibility.

Looks like I'll have to wait a while. When I can afford it I'll have to buy a complete new set of RAM. Gskill don't do 2x8gb 2133 11.11.11.30 RAM.
Thanks for trying.

Looks as though there are no UK outlets but I found newegg and Amazon US do them. :)
