If I have a GTX 460 768MB and a GTX 460 1024MB card, both are SLI ready, but can they work together? If they can, what kind of performance can I expect? Is it worth doing?

The 768MB GTX460 will not SLi with a 1048MB GTX460 so don't bother trying.

Actually some cards with different amounts of memory will run in SLi together but the OP's cards are not in that list, please check your facts before spreading misinformation.
