I dont understand this 3 way and 4 way sli stuff at all, i feel so stupid
I understand that sli doesnt work in x4. Only x8 or higher. Okay but here comes my question

The asus x79 deluxe comes with four pci express 3.0 x 16 slots
Why it doesnt work in 3way sli if it has 3 x16 slots?????

I dont understand, first one always works at 16x with the fourth one working at 16x if the second one is unused and at x8 if its in use the second slot working at x8 and the third one always working at x4 this means the board supports x16/x0/x4/x16 or x16/x4/x8 configurations

They share, if its unused the x goes smaller umm
Really what da f... Plz help

LGA2011 CPU's have 40-PCI-E lanes so three way SLI will be like first GPU X16, 2nd X16, 3rd X8
(16+16=32+8=40 :D)
But if you do a 4-way SLI, you'll be able to use GPU's with that configuration 1st X16, 2nd X8, 3rd X8, 4th X8 (40 lanes)
Some motherboard manufacturers use PLX chips to make 4-way SLI at full X16 mode :)
