I am currently looking for a new GPU to upgrade from my currently ancient 9800GT. I have done some extensive research and have found these two as a conclusion. Now, I need some help deciding which one to get. This is the thing I will be doing with them:

-Running games on max graphics (Batman, Skyrim, Saints Row 4, Crysis 3 (maybe on medium settings?), etc.

-Rendering videos in Sony Vegas Pro 12 @ 720p

I found the GTX 660 2GB here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130967

and the R9 270 (havent found one on Newegg yet, running out of time as I post this).

Please help me decide which is the better of the two. I have a $210 price range.

I would recommend the GTX 660. It's loaded with Nvidia-exclusive features like HBAO+ and Shadowplay. Also, Nvidia has released a beta driver which is supposed to mimic AMD's Mantle.

Would you mind elaborating on that a little bit? From the benchmarks I have seen, the R9 270 outpreforms the 660 by a margin. It is also cheaper on the sites I have checked. Being an Nvidia guy myself, I wanted to check into this.

The HBAO seems to cause some fairly noticeable frame drops for many people, and I record gameplay with DxTory and render with sony Vegas Pro 12 which makes Shadowplay fairly useless to me. If Nvidia is building tech to mimic AMDs Mantle, that makes them both 1-1 for me. Therefore, from a raw power-to-price ratio, wouldn't the R9 be the better of the two?

Hello! ATI cards can do HBAO too! What is wrong with people? You know this info is at your fingertips if you just bother to look! It is also believed ATI cards don't do physx. This is also not true.

In this case I would go with which ever you like better. Sadly I would recommend to save a bit more and get a 270x or a 760 at least.

First of all, Nvidia supports HBAO+, which is better than the standard HBAO. Secondly, AMD does not support PhysX. People with Radeon cards are running PhysX off their CPUs. Do your homework before making such false claims, sir.
