System:
Windows 7
560 TI AMP! Zotac
Sony (can't find model #) 5.1 Surround sound system

For the past month or two, I've been using an HDMI connection between my GPU and a Sony AVAMP (this is how it appears on my computer) sound system. Windows treats the Sony AVAMP as a monitor and feeds audio to it. This setup recently stopped working. The sound icon in the system tray displays a red X and when I trouble shoot, I get a "please connect this device" message, even though I can see the device in the Control Panel-Appearance and Personalization-Display-Screen Resolution window.

I've tried updating the driver, turning off both the computer and the stereo, connecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable, all to no avail or changed status.

There is no green audio cable. The computer and the stereo system are connected by only an HDMI cable.
