Afternoon,

Just trying to upgrade my dads pc so he can have a decent game of the new Thief and recent Hitman.

They both run horrible on his current rig.

He has has a M2N X Motherboard ( https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M2NX/ ) so it looks like the best I can do memory wise is 4gb of DDR2.
Is this right? I'm not missing anything?

Looking at his gfx card it says PCI x 16. I'm trying to keep t all below £100 and was thinking of an AMD 7770 for £70.
Will this fit? Any better suggestions?

Other thing is he has a vga monitor ans so I wondered if the divi to vga adapters result in a loss of quality or if they work fine?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a x16 pci express bus on your mobo, then any GPU can be installed but plz tell me the processor you are currently running

Right, 2 GB per DIMM, 2 DIMMs on board, max 4GB.

PCI-E Gen1 16x is the same as PCI Gen2 at 8x. This will hurt the performance by a few percent, but not enough to matter. You shouldn't have any trouble with the 7770, as long as he has the aux 6 pin power connector from the PSU. You will need an adapter if there isn't.

Ya but tell me your CPU so to confirm there isn't any bottlenecking

Then I am afraid there will be some bottlenecking but if your CPU can withstand the latest games then the 7770 shall give you decent performance

His current card is a RADION 4800. Will this use the 6 pin or adapter? Just so I know to get one.
It did seem to have two wires coming off that seemed to connect to the white psu connectors - I think.

It would be best to save up for a complete upgrade, as there will be a good bottleneck by the rest of the components. I suggest you get the 7770 now and upgrade as soon as possible in the future.
