So i have decided to buy a used 760 ti for a fair price. I currently have a modified hp 6230y with a new case and xfx 550w power supply. I am curious as to what I have to install or uninstall to use the new card without any problems. Does anyone know if i have to download the newest bios or if I need to disable onboard. There has never been another discrete graphics card installed.

Just take the old one out and put the new one in. It's probably best to update to the newest BIOS even if you weren't upgrading the graphics card. Wipe your old drivers to avoid conflicts, too.

Hi. You can go into the Device Manager and click on the Display Adapter, then right click on that and click on disable. Usually, once you plug in the discreet card, it will automatically disable the onboard graphics ( with Intel ). Once the card is plugged in and the onboard stuff disabled, you will running on the generic drivers and will need to install the drivers. Instead of using the disk, I would go to Nvidia's site and download and install the latest drivers. After you have done that you should be good to go. Usually a BiOS upgrade is sometimes necessary on a processor change.

thanks. I kinda knew these steps but did not know if i had to change the bios to legacy mode as with the newer windows 8 hp computers. Thanks for the advice. How much bottleneck will there be on this with the x4 810 processor. I have an i5-3570 on the way with a new motherboard and cooler but it is through slow international shipping.

There will be a pretty good bottleneck there, but there isn't much you can do about that.

Also kind of a weird question. There is a green light that stays on on the motherboard when i turn my computer off. Should i turn off the power supply also to make sure their is no residual charge from the motherboard when installing the card.

Thanks. Thought so. One last question i have the haf 912 case that comes with two fans. Do you think i need more to cool everything well. I am not going to push the card at all but will the heat be more than enough for the cards.

More fans is always better. Most cases tend to come with the cheapest possible fans, too. Get some nice ones and it will be quite a bit cooler. Funny that a case called the High Air Flow comes with two fans... Just remember, front to back, bottom to top for maximum cooling.

That green light is a standby light. You should turn off the Power Supply and unplug it before installing anything.
