Adequate (first) build for gaming?

This is my first build and I'm hoping to come up with a rig capable of playing games such as Far Cry 3 and BF4 at 45+ fps at max (ultra) settings on a single, 1080p monitor.

Here is my current setup: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jmsheats/saved/4jRi

I've done a fair bit of research but I'd like some opinions as well. I am trying to stay under $1000, preferably closer to $900. I will get a monitor at a later date.

1. CPU - I would like the opportunity to overclock in the future but I don't see that happening with my budget.
2. Mobo - I don't know much about motherboards though it does look like I am possibly skimping a bit here.
3. Storage - I want both the SSD and HDD.
4. GPU - It seems to me this is the GPU I want. I've heard a few games now are bumping above that 2GB mark slightly but if I want to continue at 45+ fps for another 2 years would this be ok?
5. PSU - Another area where I feel like I am skimping. I know some dislike Corsair.

Thank you for any and all advice.

770 4GB is not worth it, really only buy those if you buy two cards for SLI.
You've putted two SSD's in your build, think you should really keep your stuff on the HDD instead, not really woth buying a extra SSD for faster loading in games. The Kingston SSD should be pretty bad compared to other SSDs.

If you REALLY want the two SSDs, i would much rather recommend going single 256GB/240GB since SSDs are faster the more storage they have.

I've made this with gpu & storage tweaks:

changes:

128GB SSD + 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD >>> 120GB SSD + 3TB HDD

EVGA GTX770 4GB >>> MSI GTX 770 2GB

Hello there.

Made this little list for you:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3rd3M

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($222.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI Z87M-G43 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($80.97 @ OutletPC)
Memory: Kingston Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($69.99 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($319.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 350D MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) ($99.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1027.88

You're overclock ready, it only needs a new cooler to be able to overclock.

It's pushing it, but you could cut the price by using the Corsair 300R cabinet or go for the ASUS 760 to get price down.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for the quick response. I like the speed boost and OC potential of the 4670k but would need to chop the $30 off elsewhere in the build. Is the 770 necessary? I've read about the difference in performance but since I reallllly do like the NZXT H440 (might be convinced to bump down to black/red) I am caught between a rock and a hard place.

The 350D is also a great case, and only half of the H440 in price. Though remember! you're looking at what's on the screen, not at the pc itself. :)

The 770 would be a improvement over the 760, maybe go for a 64GB SSD to get the build under 1000. It only means you can't install 1-3 games on the SSD.

So with your list as a reference nicom, I tweaked my first build and made a second. I recently discovered I might be able to get Win8.1 for free so that actually opened up quite a few things for me.

First build (tweaked): http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jmsheats/saved/4jRi
Second build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jmsheats/saved/4mER

For both builds I upgraded my SSD, which I think is important, and took your advice on the CPU and GPU. I like both cases though I still really do love the H440.

The questions I have now are whether there is a clear winner among those two mobos (I have read reviews and can't tell) and whether or not a 4gb 770 is worth it. If the 4gb isn't worth it then I will be leaning towards the H440 build for sure and hope to get the most stable mobo.

Ok thanks. The kingston SSD was on accident though I do really want the samsung for the OS and whatever games I can squeeze on it. I think I'll likely go for the 4670k, 2gb 770 and H440 case (gotta hand it to NZXT). Why the MSI mobo?
