Hello, I found a thread that's really similar to what I'm asking here:
But, I still have a couple questions.
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1760254/format-r...

So, I picked up a powerspec machine a few days ago and I love it, however, my user folder, and program files are installed on my SSD drive, where windows is also located. I really don't want any program files or my user folder on my SSD drive, so I'm thinking I'll just reinstall windows and tell it to place all program files on my D drive, as well as my user folder.

I know that data on my D drive should be okay, but no programs will work on that drive, because the registry is pointing at the C drive, so windows won't be able to find them if I reinstall it (or something)...

So basically, I just wanted to make sure I had things clear before I go and start doing anything and mess things up.

Also, is there a point when reinstalling windows 7 where you are given an option of where to install program files and user folders? If I reinstall windows 7, will it end up just defaulting the program files and user folders back to the same drive on which it was installed? I know there's ways to move program files and stuff to a different drive, but it's kind of a pain when windows keeps wanting to default back to my C drive instead of my D drive, so now I have a handful of programs on both drives. Blah.

My powerspec came with a windows 7 recovery disc, as well as a drivers disc, so I think I'm okay in that regard. I've reformatted my old windows xp machine a bunch of times, but anytime I do something new, I always get a bit confused.

My pc came with a sheet that even has the steps to reinstall windows 7, which is great. I'm just hoping that I get an option to have my program files and user folders installed on a separate drive, so I don't end up doing all this for nothing.

My reinstallation cd also has no serial on it.. but I'm guessing I can just find that on my machine and write it down and it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for any help!

Install Windows on the new drive
Installing applications, simply choose where you want them to go.

But...applications do not really consume that much space. My 1208GB drive has ALL of my applications and the Win 8Pro OS....currently ~51GB used.

What takes up space is movies/music/pics/games...

Thanks! My 120GB SSD has 70gb used up, but I'm assuming that what's eating up the space is the adobe programs I have as well. It just gets a bit confusing when windows keeps asking to install something on the drive I don't want it to.. have to get used to windows 7 and its libraries.. heh
